A daily challenge to meet new people.
One challenge a day. Real life. Real people.
Spice is a daily-challenge social app built around shared real-world moments. Every day at 8 AM you'll get the same challenge as every other Spice user — say hi to a stranger, wear something silly, learn a magic trick, eat somewhere new. You complete it, snap a photo, and post it.
It's a social network designed to get you out into the world instead of stuck on a feed. We use AI to verify your photo matches the challenge, so completing one feels earned.
Every Spice user worldwide gets the same prompt every morning.
Complete the challenge in the real world. Take a photo as you finish it.
Post the photo, see what your friends did, build your streak.
This Privacy Policy explains how Alexander Nordby ("Spice," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Spice mobile app and website. Spice is operated as an individual proprietorship based in California, USA. Contact: nordbycorp@gmail.com.
Account & Profile Info: name, username, email address, phone number, date of birth, and a profile photo you upload. Content You Create: photos, videos, captions, comments, direct messages, likes, follows, challenge submissions, and recommendations. Approximate Location: we may infer your approximate location (country/region) from your IP address to apply local time-zone rules to the daily challenge. We do NOT collect precise GPS coordinates. Device Info: basic device type, OS version, app version, and crash logs. Cognito Identity ID: an opaque internal ID used to scope your data inside our backend. We do NOT collect your contacts, microphone audio outside video posts, Bluetooth data, or any data outside what you provide directly to the app.
Camera and photo library access — required to take or upload challenge photos and profile pictures. Microphone — required only when recording video posts. Push notifications — used to alert you about new daily challenges, messages, and likes. You can disable any of these permissions in your device settings; some features will stop working without them.
To provide and operate Spice (sign-in, posting, messaging, following, blocking). To verify challenge photos using third-party AI services (see Section 5). To enforce our Terms of Use, including detecting and removing abusive content or accounts. To respond to your support requests and feedback. To send service emails (sign-in codes, account notices) and push notifications. To improve the app by analyzing aggregate, anonymized usage patterns. We do NOT use your information for personalized advertising. We do NOT sell your personal information.
With other users: your profile, posts, likes, and follows are visible to users you have permitted to see them (e.g. people who follow you). Your DMs are visible only to the recipient. Service providers we rely on: (a) Amazon Web Services hosts our backend (Cognito for auth, AppSync for data, DynamoDB for database storage, S3 for media, SES for email, Lambda for serverless functions); (b) OpenAI receives your challenge photo for AI verification; (c) Apple and Google handle in-app distribution AND in-app purchases (challenge rerolls, deadline extensions). These vendors are contractually required to safeguard your data and may not use it for their own purposes beyond providing the service to us. Legal: we may disclose information if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the safety of Spice users or the public.
When you make an in-app purchase, your payment is processed entirely by Apple's App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Spice does NOT collect, store, or have access to your credit card number, bank account details, billing address, or any other financial information. After a successful purchase, Apple or Google sends Spice a transaction confirmation (typically a receipt ID and a record of which item was purchased) so we can deliver the item to your account. We retain this transaction record to verify your purchases and to deliver any items you've bought. For refunds, billing disputes, and changes to your payment method, please contact Apple or Google directly; Spice cannot directly issue refunds or change your billing settings.
When you submit a challenge photo, the image is sent to OpenAI's vision API for an automated assessment of whether it matches the day's challenge. OpenAI returns a confidence score and a brief rationale. Per OpenAI's API data policy, your image is not used to train OpenAI's models and is retained only briefly for abuse-detection purposes (currently up to 30 days). We do not send any other personal information alongside the image.
The Spice mobile app does NOT use cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics SDKs (Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.). The Spice website may use minimal first-party storage to remember preferences and does not track you across other sites.
We send service emails (sign-in OTP codes, account notices, recommendation confirmations) via Amazon SES. Once SMS verification is enabled, we will also send transactional SMS messages using a registered toll-free number through Amazon End User Messaging. You may receive push notifications about new daily challenges, friends' activity, and direct messages; you can disable push notifications in your device settings. We do NOT send promotional or marketing communications.
You can edit your profile (username, name, age, photo) from the Profile Setup screen. You can delete individual posts and messages from within the app. You can block other users from the chat or settings screens. You can delete your entire account from Settings → Your Account → Delete Account; this removes your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. To request a copy of your data or exercise any other privacy right, email nordbycorp@gmail.com.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. To exercise your rights, email nordbycorp@gmail.com and we will verify your identity before responding.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your personal data is processed on the lawful basis of (a) your consent (account creation), (b) contractual necessity (operating the app you signed up for), and (c) our legitimate interest in operating and improving Spice. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Spice's servers are located in the United States. By using Spice from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those of your country.
Spice is not intended for and may not be used by anyone under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you become aware that a child under 18 is using Spice, please notify us at nordbycorp@gmail.com and we will delete the account promptly.
We retain your account data while your account is active. After you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, financial or legal records). Aggregated, anonymized statistics may be retained indefinitely.
We protect your data with industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest (AWS-managed encryption). No system is perfectly secure. If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, email nordbycorp@gmail.com immediately.
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of Spice after a change means you accept the revised policy.

Welcome to Spice. These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Alexander Nordby, an individual operating Spice from California, USA ("Spice," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the Spice mobile app or website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Spice.
Spice is only for users who are at least 18 years old. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or older. We use self-reported age verification at signup; we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to use Spice and will terminate accounts found to belong to underage users.
To use Spice you must register with your name, username, email address, phone number, date of birth, and a profile photo. You are responsible for the accuracy of this information, for keeping your login credentials confidential, and for all activity on your account. Don't impersonate others, create accounts to harass or deceive, or share your account with anyone else. Notify us at nordbycorp@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
Each day Spice presents one challenge to all users worldwide, rotating at 8:00 AM in your local time zone. Challenges are written by Spice staff, and some are inspired by user-submitted suggestions. You may complete the challenge by uploading a photo, video, or text. Spice does not guarantee that any challenge is appropriate for your circumstances; skip any challenge that feels unsafe, illegal, or otherwise unfit for you.
Spice encourages real-world activities and may suggest meeting or interacting with strangers. ALL real-world activities — including completing challenges, meeting other Spice users in person, or following any suggestion in the app — are undertaken AT YOUR OWN RISK. Spice is not responsible for any injury, loss, theft, harassment, criminal activity, emotional harm, or other harm that results from real-world interactions, meetings, or challenge attempts. You agree to use good judgment, obey local laws, and never put yourself or others in danger.
You agree NOT to use Spice to: (a) commit illegal acts, including trespassing, vandalism, theft, drug or alcohol misuse, or violations of any law; (b) harass, bully, threaten, stalk, or endanger any person; (c) attempt dangerous stunts; (d) post sexually explicit content, nudity, or content that sexualizes minors; (e) post hate speech, slurs, or content attacking a protected class; (f) encourage self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, or other dangerous behavior; (g) infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights; (h) scrape, reverse-engineer, or interfere with Spice's systems; (i) attempt to bypass the AI verification system; (j) submit false or misleading content. We may remove content, suspend or terminate accounts, and report illegal activity to authorities at our sole discretion.
You retain ownership of the photos, videos, captions, messages, and other content you submit to Spice ("Your Content"). By posting Your Content you grant Spice a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for technical purposes such as resizing), publicly display, and distribute Your Content within Spice and in Spice's marketing materials, social media posts, and promotional content about the app. You can revoke this license for future uses by deleting the relevant content. You represent that you own or have all rights necessary to grant this license.
Spice uses automated image-recognition tools, including third-party AI services, to evaluate whether your posts match the day's challenge. The verification verdict is an estimate and not a guarantee of accuracy. You can override a rejection by tapping "Post anyway," and the resulting post will be marked Unverified. Spice is not responsible for inaccurate verifications or any consequences thereof.
You can report posts, messages, profiles, and challenges by using in-app tools or emailing nordbycorp@gmail.com. We review content that is flagged by users or automatically flagged by our AI moderation systems. We reserve the right to remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts in our sole discretion, with or without notice.
You can block any other user from the chat or settings screens. Blocked users will not see your posts in their feed, will not appear in your search or messages, and will not be able to start new conversations with you.
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Your Account → Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for any reason, including violation of these Terms, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to access Spice ends immediately; provisions that by their nature should survive (including IP, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution) will survive.
Spice itself is free to download and use. You may optionally purchase one-time consumable items inside the app, including (a) challenge rerolls, which let you skip and replace today's challenge, and (b) deadline extensions, which give you additional time to complete today's challenge. Other consumable items may be offered from time to time. All purchases are processed by Apple's App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android); Spice does not directly receive or store your payment information. Prices are shown in the app at the point of purchase and may vary by country, currency, and applicable taxes. Consumables are delivered to your account immediately upon successful payment and, once used or applied, are non-refundable. Refund requests must be submitted through Apple or Google in accordance with their respective refund policies; Spice cannot directly issue refunds for App Store or Play Store purchases. We reserve the right to add, modify, or remove available consumables and to change prices at any time. Consumables have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and are forfeited upon account deletion or termination.
Spice, including its name, logo, design, code, written content, and all other materials we provide (excluding Your Content), is owned by Alexander Nordby and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of Spice without our written permission. If you believe content on Spice infringes your copyright, send a DMCA takedown notice to nordbycorp@gmail.com including (a) your contact info, (b) identification of the work, (c) the URL/location of the infringing material, (d) a good-faith statement, and (e) your signature (electronic is fine).
Spice is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that Spice will be error-free, secure, or available at all times. You use Spice at your own risk.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SPICE AND ALEXANDER NORDBY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF SPICE, INCLUDING DAMAGES FROM PHYSICAL INJURY, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, IDENTITY THEFT, OR INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER USERS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED USD $100.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Alexander Nordby and Spice from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from (a) your use of Spice, (b) Your Content, (c) your violation of these Terms, or (d) your violation of any law or third-party right.
ANY DISPUTE BETWEEN YOU AND SPICE WILL BE RESOLVED BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION administered by JAMS in California under its applicable rules, rather than in court, except that you may bring small-claims actions in a court of competent jurisdiction. YOU AND SPICE WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY AND TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION, CLASS ARBITRATION, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. If any part of this Section is found unenforceable, the remainder will remain in effect. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing nordbycorp@gmail.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to Section 16, any legal action must be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.
If you downloaded Spice from the Apple App Store: these Terms are between you and Spice only; Apple is not a party. Apple has no obligation to provide support for Spice. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you. If you downloaded Spice from Google Play, similar provisions apply with respect to Google.
We may update these Terms occasionally. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of Spice after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Spice and supersede any prior agreements.
